SPOUSAL VIOLENCE: Soon a new device to keep the perpetrators away from the victims

0

Domestic violence is a reality in Saint-Martin. The Trait d'Union victim assistance association is also relying on a new tool to protect victims and above all prevent further violence from their companion, the anti-rapprochement bracelet (BAR).

Recently deployed on the national territory, the BAR is an electronic bracelet which makes it possible to geolocate the perpetrator of violence - convicted or not - and therefore to monitor whether the latter does not approach the victim. The device is similar to the bracelet placed during a judicial review. "Without resorting to prison, this bracelet constitutes the strongest, most restrictive and most protective response in matters of domestic violence", considers the Ministry of Justice.

Pre-alert and alert zones are defined and if the author crosses them, an alert is sent to the national telesurveillance and remote assistance center. In the event of a pre-alert, the operator comes into contact with the victim who can thus find safety. If the perpetrator has entered the alert zone, the operator contacts the victim but also the police so that they can intervene and question the perpetrator. If the bracelet is cut, an alert is also sent. (soualigapost.com)
