As part of Operation Resilience, an Army Puma helicopter carried out five medical evacuations last Wednesday, including one for a patient from Saint-Martin transferred to the Pointe-à-Pitre University Hospital.

At 13:30 p.m., one of the PUMA helicopters, disembarked on Monday May 11 from the amphibious helicopter carrier Diksmuide, took off in emergency from the State aeronautical center, where it is now parked, towards the Marie-Galante hospital center. A 64-year-old man suffering from heart failure and a 41-year-old woman hospitalized in neurology were taken on board the helicopter for the Basse-Terre hospital center, for the first, and the Guadeloupe university hospital center (CHUG) ) at Pointe à Pitre for the second.

After refueling at Guadeloupe airport, the PUMA of the French Army left for the Saint-Martin hospital center where it landed at 17 p.m. to recover a 72-year-old patient placed on a respirator to transport to the CHU from Pointe-à-Pitre ..

Finally, at 19:30 p.m., two 78 and 79-year-old patients from CHUG were transported to the Martinique university hospital center where they arrived at 20:20 p.m.

This major patient transfer operation, unprecedented since the arrival of PUMA helicopters in the West Indies on April 17, lasted more than 8 hours, including 5 hours in flight. The 5 patients suffered from different non-covid pathologies and remained under the supervision of a military medical team dedicated to PUMA helicopters throughout the operation.
