A statue of Mayor Albert Fleming has been installed in the gardens of the Collectivity in Marigot. “This statue was originally to appear at Sandy Ground, as part of a project to develop a small landscaped park (in front of the tennis courts) named Albert Fleming.

This is through President Gibbs' wish to honor the mayor during his lifetime. Initiated in 2018, this project was integrated into the PPI of Saint-Martin and then postponed following the delay in the community's programming, ”explains the COM.

The statue having been delivered to Saint-Martin last August, President Daniel Gibbs wanted to make it visible to as many people as possible and have it installed in the gardens of the Collectivity.

It is the first statue in a series which will consist of honoring the great figures of Saint-Martin.

It was made by the sculptor Joël Vergne, originally from Corrèze. He was selected as part of a public market in 2019. His talent lies in the ability to produce characters from photos and documents for cities and to create bronze works of art intended to enhance the landscape. urban. Joël Vergne worked from a photo of Albert Fleming, dating from the 1980s, at the time of his first electoral mandate.

The mayor's close family were involved at every stage of the creation process. After several postponements due to the covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and the periods of confinement in France, the statue was finally completed and delivered to Saint-Martin last August. It is a bronze of 1m, 80kg, placed on a granite base made in Saint-Martin, giving it a total height of 190m. The surrounding garden has been embellished, a lighting system has been installed and plantings carried out by the services of the Collectivity and local service providers.

Ultimately, the final totem pole will include an introductory word above as well as a QR Code giving access to a complete biography of Mayor Albert Fleming. The unveiling took place in a select committee, in the presence of the mayor's family, President Daniel Gibbs and elected officials. Albert Fleming, however, was not present.
