VSA Public Health, Social Development and Labor Minister Richard Panneflek said that of the 75 people tested at Juliana Airport on a Saturday repatriation flight from Fort Lauderdale (on Spirit Airlines charter flight), a person has tested positive for Covid-19 and another has tested inconclusive and will be tested again

“The person who tested positive for Covid-19 had no symptoms on arrival at the airport and was wearing a mask in flight and at the airport”, announced Mr. Panneflek in a press release on Sunday evening . “Therefore, the risk of exposure to Covid-19 by others on the flight or at the airport is considered minimal”.

According to the statement, everyone who was on that flight will have to remain in quarantine for 14 days.

“Given that these people arrived from a high risk country, we would like to reiterate to everyone who was on board this flight that although their test result was negative, they must remain in quarantine for 14 days ”, added Mr. Panneflek.

The ministry said it is working diligently to ensure the safety of the public and to minimize the number of Covid-19 cases. “Consequently, Minister Richard Panneflek urges the public to be vigilant in complying with prevention guidelines,” he said in the statement.

Residents and visitors are reminded to play their role in preventing Covid-19 by frequently washing their hands with soap and water, using hand sanitizer, practicing social distancing and wearing masks, coverings and face shields in public places and when in the presence of people who do not live in your household.

“The spread of COVID-19 remains a threat to the health, economy and livelihoods of all, but together we can prevent, contain and mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on St. Maarten,” the statement said.
