SINT MAARTEN: The Netherlands signs a € 470 million fund agreement for Sint Maarten with the World Bank

Leona Romeo-Marlin and Michael Ferrier respectively Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Sint Maarten were in Washington Monday to attend the signing of the agreement between the Netherlands and the World Bank of 470 million euros (580 million USD) for the reconstruction of Sint Maarten. This agreement was signed between Raymond Knops, the secretary of internal affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Kristalina Georgieva the managing director of the World Bank.

Leona Romeo-Marlin thanked the Netherlands and the World Bank as well as the Minister of Finance for their contribution to the outcome of this agreement. She said it was an important step for Sint Maarten, which says it is ready to work with the Netherlands and the World Bank.

Thanks to this fund, we are now able to set up projects and revitalize the Sint Maarten economy, ”she said.

$ 128 million was immediately released and used to finance three projects identified as priorities in the next hurricane season.
