Towards a tourist recovery?

In the first two weeks of November, the number of arrivals at Juliana Airport stands at 7216; a record figure since April. This is the first time in seven months that the threshold of 3000 passengers per week on arrival has been crossed. Respectively 3631 and 3585 people (tourists and residents alike) were received during the first and second weeks of this month, this is 37,4% more than during the last two of October.

These results can be explained by a recovery in tourism activity thanks to the rescheduling of flights from the United States. The return of North Americans is also confirmed in the statistics of tourist tourism. 4671 tourists of all nationalities stayed on the island in October *, which is 2,2 times more than in September. More than half of tourists (56,7%) are from North America, just over a third from Europe.

The number of Americans rose 149% in one month. They were 2650 in October against 1065 in September. The number of Europeans has also clearly increased (+ 91%), going from 1065 to 1621. Note that in August, they had been 1397.

Since the reopening of Juliana Airport to flights from the United States on August 1, 5112 North Americans have come to stay on the island. Since the reopening to flights from Europe a month earlier, 5291 Europeans have come on vacation.

Since the beginning of July, a total of 11421 tourists have been received.

* Figures are published monthly by the government of Sint Maarten.
