The disturbance located off the African coast could develop into a tropical depression in the coming days. It will affect the West Indies archipelago from this weekend but forecasters are still uncertain as to its final intensity and trajectory.
A large area of low pressure, located about 1500 km west-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands, generates showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions will be conducive to development, forecasters at the National Hurricane Center are warning, and a tropical depression is likely to form in the coming days as the system moves toward the West Indian arc. The NHC evaluated yesterday at 70% the probabilities of a strengthening in 24 hours and 90% in 5 days. Forecasts will be refined in the coming days.
