The first edition of "Alamanda Kitchen" took place last week at Orient Bay. This new festive event, organized on the site of the Alamanda hotel, was a great success with the population. Interview with Jacques Claus, one of the initiators of this project.

Also co-manager of the Alamanda hotel, did you want to leave the island after the hurricane?

• Jacques Claus

I did not have this feeling, even if our establishment was devastated and that it will take at least a year to put it back on its feet. We lost almost everything, but no one was injured. With my team, we looked up quickly, with a good frame of mind.

"Alamanda Kitchen" has nothing to do with your main activity. How did this concept come about?

• Jacques Claus

The idea came by chance while chatting with one of my friends, Julien Costa, while clearing trash together at the hotel: "Do you know Kabul Kitchen?" (Editor's note: television series broadcast on Canal +) We are in the thick of it with Alamanda Kitchen! ", He launched me. We quickly received the support of the staff of several beach establishments to bring this project to life, an approach dedicated to all Saint-Martinois, the firefighters and the soldiers who helped us. Many thanks to them.

Tell us about your first steps towards this new adventure?

• Jacques Claus

After Irma, there was no longer any life in Orient Bay and on the island in general. We started to invite people around a simple barbecue at the hotel.

The atmosphere was good and morale was high. And we too, seeing the world, we came out of our isolation. With the collaboration of Dj Master Gee, we decided to move up a gear in order to share this communicative good humor with as many people as possible.

How was this first edition received?

• Jacques Claus

Very good ! Many people came to thank us for hosting such an event. This reinforced the idea that they needed to meet, chat and listen to good music. A tremendous dynamic of renewal has taken hold. Reconstruction is our watchword, we are moving forward. After the passage of Irma, we had almost forgotten the heavenly setting of Saint-Martin. Finally, even if it's still hard, it's exceptional to live here.

The next evening will be Friday October 6 from 18 p.m. to 23 p.m. Find all the events on the Alamanda Kitchen Facebook page.
