The reopening of schools is "a strong signal"

“My priority has been for schools to reopen as soon as possible. Their reopening is a strong signal for Saint-Martin, ”said the prefect Philippe Gustin, interministerial delegate responsible for the reconstruction of Saint-Martin.

On October 2, the Quartier d'Orléans secondary school reopened the Clair Saint-Maximin and Omer Arrondell elementary schools and the school complex. Today, the Emile Choisy, Hervé Williams and Aline Hanson schools have reopened. "Other reopenings are planned for next Monday, in particular that of the college of Mont des Accords", announces Philippe Gustin.

Reception is certainly limited there, by half-day awaiting a return to normal in the coming weeks. The objective of the President of the Republic was an almost normal return to the start of Toussaint. Prime Minister Edouard Philippe will come to verify it in person. He is expected on November 6 in Saint-Martin.

“Our main problem today is the lack of knowledge of the workforce. Before Irma, we had around 10 students, today we don't know how many children there are, ”admits the inter-ministerial delegate. This poses a problem in terms of organization and logistics. "In Quartier where there were few families who left, we counted between 000 and 70% of the students," reports Philippe Gustin.

On the other hand, two partially destroyed establishments will not reopen, it is the colleague Soualiga in Cul de Sac and the primary school Nina Duverly in Marigot. A distribution of the children will be made.

“We have to review the school map, especially since there is a demographic decline. It was not normal either for students to go to Soualiga college by bus while they lived in Marigot, "notes the prefect.
