Anguilla fisherman tried for illegally selling 200 kg Queen Conch to Marigot

A young 30-year-old professional fisherman from Anguilla is being sued by French justice for importing Queen Conch without a license. During an initial inspection in January 2016, 170 kg of Queen Conch, part of which was frozen, was discovered on his boat on the seafront in Marigot. During a second check on board the ferry this time, 30 kg frozen were discovered. This fisherman is not allowed to import Queen Conch without a license in Saint-Martin because it is a territory of the European Union where the species is protected, its sale and its import regulated. The prosecution requested a sentence of 4 euros, 000 of which were suspended. The judgment was reserved for March 2000.

This case is independent of that revealed last week by the prosecution and relating to the discovery of a ton of conch imported into Saint Martin illegally. (More details on www.soualigapost.com)
