Traffic control: The gendarmes were not idle during the Easter weekend…

0

Throughout the Easter weekend, the Gendarmerie considerably increased its presence on the roads of Saint-Martin and on the sister island of Saint-Barthélemy in order to prevent any accident and deter risky behavior.

Thus, from Thursday 13 to Monday 17 April inclusive, more than 430 vehicles and 600 people were checked, making it possible to identify the following fines and offenses:

- More than 30 fines, including 6 driving under the influence of an alcoholic state, and 4 non-wearing of seat belts.

- 28 tort proceedings including 10 conducted under the influence of an alcoholic state and 7 conducted without a driving license.

A total of 22 vehicles were immobilized.

Despite the presence of the Gendarmerie, five accidents occurred in Saint-Martin and two in Saint-Barthélemy.

In Saint-Martin, there were two accidents with the presence of drinking and driving on Sunday April 16 (one injured with 10 days of interruption of working time) and three accidents occurred on Monday April 17 where only one person was slightly injured. No blood alcohol level was noted on these.

In Saint-Barthélemy, two accidents are to be deplored.

One occurred on April 16 for a loss of control of a single quad involved and the other, April 17 for a second quad, still alone involved alcohol.

Fortunately, these two accidents only caused property damage. _AF
