A forty-five-year-old man, IO, is accused of assaulting his wife. He was presented Wednesday morning before the local court of Saint-Martin for immediate appearance.
He is accused of having between January 1, 2020 and April 28, 2021 slapped his wife, of having insulted her, of having underestimated her during her pregnancy, of having denigrated her, of threatening to kill her, for putting the blade of a knife to her throat and chest, for trying to forcefully kiss her and having her fingers in her panties as she refused. On March 11, he also threatened her with death, telling her that she "was going to join her ex-mistress in a box".
Yesterday morning, he asked for a period of time to prepare his defense, a period which was granted to him by right. The court then had to rule on his legal situation pending trial. In accordance with the requests of the deputy prosecutor, the judges requested the placement in provisional detention of IO to prevent a reiteration of the facts. He will therefore be transferred to prison in Guadeloupe.
IO will be judged in Basse-Terre on June 29 in face-to-face; he refused to be tried by the court of Saint-Martin by videoconference. The victim who was present this morning will have the opportunity to attend the trial by videoconference
