Down's syndrome: change in sight in sight

To screen for trisomy 21 during pregnancy, the use of DNA tests is recommended by the High Authority for Health (HAS) for women at high risk. “The objective is to give pregnant women or couples the most reliable information possible on the risk of fetal trisomy 21 while limiting the use of invasive examinations necessary to confirm the diagnosis”, indicates the organization. For now, these tests are not supported by Social Security. Their reimbursement - a decision by the Ministry of Health - is the next step. Trisomy 21 “a chromosomal abnormality characterized by a supernumerary chromosome 21” is observed “on average in 27 pregnancies out of 10.000 and its frequency increases with maternal age”. _EH
