Launch of the 2017 hurricane season

D-1 before the opening of the 2017 cyclone season which will end on November 30. The population is invited to prepare for it.

Seasonal forecasts from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predict 11 to 17 named storms, 5 to 9 hurricanes and 2 to 4 major hurricanes, with a 70% probability. NOAA also predicts that cyclone activity in the North Atlantic is likely to be above normal (45%) or close to normal (35%).

This year, a phenomenon has already been named: Arlene, a subtropical storm that developed in April. The organization recalls that the 2016 season was active with 15 named storms, 7 hurricanes, including 4 major in the Atlantic basin. _EH
