"The Union des Parents d'Elèves de Saint-Martin wishes to draw your attention to the situation in Saint-Martin which a large part of secondary school pupils is facing", so the letter began, dated 23 November sent by the UPESM to the President of the Republic, to the Ministers of National Education and Overseas. Precisely the association denounces the situation experienced for several days by the students who have to go to school by their own means following the cessation of school bus service by the four transport companies.

“In January 2020, the school carriers started a strike for the non-payment of services. After discussion,  a part was paid and school bus service was able to resume. On November 3, they decided once again not to honor their market and therefore not to provide transport for the students due to the non-payment of their bills. To this day, the situation remains on standby and student transport is still not guaranteed, ”explains UPESM President Angèle Hodge. “To get to school or return home, students have to fight to find a place on the buses, or even to take several and cross a dangerous road without pavement and very poorly lit.

Some parents of students, already very affected by the health crisis, feel helpless to allow their child to go to school to learn. The right to education is, however, a fundamental right that has been violated all too often. These students deserve to have as many chances as the other students of the Nation ”, considers the association.

At the same time, the UPESM sent another letter to the President of the COM on the same subject to request a meeting. With local actors, she wants to "find concrete solutions for the good of the students as well as their parents". It considers that the reimbursement of the benefit of the uninsured is not sufficient.
