The Sint Maarten Court of First Instance sided with the public prosecution as regards the continued detention for 60 additional days of JG (42), a former partly Dutch police officer, who had worked since 2017 in the office of the first Minister, informed the prosecution of St. Maarten Monday July 23.

Arrested on July 3, JG is suspected, within the framework of the “WHALE” case of corruption, falsification of documents and violation of the confidentiality clause. Two other suspects have been arrested and heard by national detectives, while more arrests will be made and more witnesses will be heard during this ongoing investigation. It is carried out by national detectives and supervised by the prosecution. The suspect, placed in restrictive detention, was therefore not allowed to contact his lawyer. A measure deemed necessary in the interest of the investigation. A few days later, on July 27, he was taken to Philipsburg hospital, on the advice of his doctor. Then on Saturday, at Saint-Martin hospital for more in-depth examinations. The prosecutor's office, due to confidentiality, will not comment on his state of health, a statement from the St. Maarten prosecutor's office dated July 28 said.

No other information is available at the moment. The prosecution confirms that the suspect had received a visit from the probation services and his doctor earlier this week. He remains in pre-trial detention. (Source: www.soualigapost.com)
