SPORT & NAUTISM: The Nautical Club of Saint Martin celebrates its 4th anniversary

For the occasion, the Club Nautique team  of Saint-Martin (CNSM) invited the press last Wednesday to Ma Ti Beach to celebrate the event with a retrospective of the activities offered during the year 2021.

After a satisfactory assessment in 2020, the Nautical Club has put the DAPA system back at the heart of its task book for the year 2021. Nika, coordinator of the Nautical Club, retraced the various sessions that took place during the year , namely four. As a reminder, the DAPA system organized by the Club Nautique de Saint Martin and supported by the Department of Youth, Sports and Social Cohesion (DJSCS) allows children in precarious situations to access sports activities and outdoors as part of the strategy for preventing and combating poverty. The first session of 2021 was the DAPA Carnival in February on Friar's Bay beach. Three days of sports activities awaited 266 children from Quartier d'Orléans, Concordia and Sandy Ground. The second edition, the DAPA Easter, took place on March 31 and April 1, 2021, still in Friar's Bay. The DAPA Halloween then took place on October 27, 28 and 29, 2021, this time on the island of Pinel, thus offering the opportunity for children to discover another island and expand their environment, some having never climbed on a boat. The children were guided by representatives of the Nature Reserve, exploring the island of Pinel whether it be the fauna or the flora, in an approach to raise awareness of the preservation of an ecosystem. The last edition of 2021 was organized on the beach of Galion, the special Christmas DAPA with beautiful surprises concocted by the organizing team. During all these DAPA editions, all the children were introduced to water and beach sports such as swimming, paddle, kayaking, surfing, sailing, beach tennis, soccer, boxing, etc. Many sports which, outside the framework of DAPA, were not necessarily financially affordable for this young population. The cost of all DAPA activities is €80.000, with grants issued by the Collectivity. The Nautical Club took care of the transport of the children from their local school to the site concerned, the meals, and of course, the activities. Bülent Gülay, president of the CNSM, did not hide his emotion during the meeting with the press when several photos and videos illustrating these four major events were projected on a screen, proving once again the importance of a project as DAPA for the development of Saint-Martin youth. _VX
