Created in Sint Maarten in 2012 by Erika Cannegieter-Smith and her niece Mélanie Choisy, Be The Change is a non-profit association whose mission is to encourage donations (from a dollar) and volunteering on the island, both among residents and tourists. Since 2015, Be The Change has organized SXM DOET, the island's biggest annual event around volunteering. “Last year more than 1800 people signed up as volunteers for more than 75 projects carried out by the various associations. This year we are looking for volunteers for 124 projects ”specifies the co-founder.
The SXM Festival, via its foundation set up after the passage of Irma, made a donation of 10 dollars to finance these local association projects.
The next edition of SXM DOET is imminent since it will take place on March 15 and 16 in various locations in Sint Maarten. To participate in projects carried out by local associations on Friday and / or Saturday, volunteers can register on the event website. They will receive a T-shirt and a hat for their participation, as well as food and drink.
