Road safety announced the application as of this Friday of new measures concerning the Highway code, of which much more severe sanctions in the event of use of the portable while driving.

Phone while driving + Infraction = bye bye le license. From this Friday, if you commit a traffic offense and you were in possession of your cell phone in hand, your driver's license will be automatically withheld. All offenses are affected by this measure, whether it be a blinker fault, crossing a solid line, speeding, refusal to give priority to pedestrians or dangerous overtaking.

Beyond 72 hours of detention, the prefect may pronounce a license suspension of up to six months and even one year in the event of an accident, driving with blood alcohol or after using a narcotic. A drastic sanction, but necessary for Road Safety, according to which the telephone while driving is responsible for one in 10 bodily accidents and multiplies the risk of accident by three.

Fine of 135 euros for night establishments without alcohol tests

Other measures, which were taken during an interministerial road safety council in January 2018, also come into force this Friday after publication the day before the implementing decree to Official newspaper. Thus, the maximum duration of the obligation to drive only one vehicle fitted with an anti-boot breathalyzer (EAD), which requires breathing in a breathalyzer and blocks the vehicle if the blood alcohol level is too high, goes from six months to a year. This measure is pronounced as an alternative to the suspension of driving licenses.

The obligation to provide breathalyzers in night establishments is strengthened and now exposes offenders to a fine of 135 euros. However, it is no longer mandatory to have a breathalyzer in your vehicle.
