Road safety / awareness campaign: Real bikers share the road

0

The prefecture of Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy is launching a road safety awareness campaign for the 15-25 age group from Friday February 12 to Friday March 12, 2021, in particular on risky behavior by two-wheeled users:

• vulnerable users: cyclists, motorized two-wheelers (wearing a helmet and other equipment, visibility, sharing the road, respecting the code, etc.)

• driving under the influence of alcohol and / or drugs.

An infographic will be published every Friday, featuring a loved one affected by an accident and appealing to everyone's sense of responsibility. It will be accompanied by a reminder of the penalties incurred in the event of a questioning of an offense. Videos and reports from the field will also be shared from March 15, 2021.

This campaign will be broadcast on the media and on social networks through visuals focused on the taking of responsibility of each actor in civil society. The mobilization of all is an essential element in the fight against incivility on the road. When a tragic event occurs, the victim is not the only one affected, the same goes for those around him, in particular parents, brothers and sisters, etc.

Driving under the influence of drugs and / or alcohol and non-compliance with the highway code are the main factors of death on the roads of the communities of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin. In 2019, 49 accidents resulting in the death of 10 people (including 07 were under the age of 24) were registered. This trend is seen every year. Road safety is an important issue in our territories. The work of the National Gendarmerie will also be highlighted, particularly during checks.

In Saint-Barthélemy as in Saint-Martin, we are all concerned, all responsible. The fight against incivility is a fight that must be waged together.
