Security: The army is organizing a rescue training exercise for the populations in Saint-Martin from June 12 to 16

Like every year, the French armed forces will carry out a training exercise in June to help the French population in the West Indies who have suffered a major natural disaster. Baptized Caribbean, this exercise will take place from June 8 to 17. This year, it will take on a greater dimension with a more catastrophic scenario and broader participation.

The scenario is as follows: a first hurricane of the Maria type will hit the islands of Guadeloupe and a week later, another hurricane, of the Irma type this time, will pass over the northern islands. The armed forces must be ready to intervene in all territories to provide assistance to populations. A total of 2 people will take part in this exercise.

850 soldiers will be dispatched on the ground, 10 ships at sea and 10 aircraft will be deployed, including the Mistral helicopter carrier, the Dumont d'Urville support ship, Panther and Puma helicopters. "The objective is to put into practice the intervention procedures written on paper, to revise them collectively", explains Rear Admiral Eric Aymard.

In this training will participate not only the armed forces but also all the other services directly or indirectly involved in crisis management locally and in mainland France: gendarmerie, firefighters, civil security, administrations, etc.

Rear Admiral Aymard also wished for the cooperation of the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States, human and material resources American, English and Dutch will also be deployed.

In Saint-Martin, the exercise will take place over four days, from June 12 to 16. Around 190 soldiers will train on the Belle Créole site.
