About 270 college students embarked yesterday morning aboard twenty boats. Direction Tintamarre Island. For some, it was the first time they had boarded a boat.

Organized by the Métimer Association, the objective of this day at sea was to allow children to discover the nautical world. For this, Métimer asked private operators (motor boats, catamaran, etc.); this year, twenty boats, five more than last year, responded to the invitation. This enabled around thirty additional young Saint-Martin residents to take advantage of this Sea Discovery Day, 2018 edition!

Upon their arrival in Tintamarre, the pupils were made aware by agents of the Nature Reserve to the protection of fauna, flora and the environment. After a picnic on the beach, the children participated in a garbage collection competition before enjoying the joys of the sea by practicing various nautical activities (paddle, kayak, etc.) whose equipment was made available by the operators.

"This day was made possible thanks to the State, precisely to the CGET, the general commissariat for the equality of territories, which finances the major part of the costs", specifies Bülent Gülay, the president of Métimer, who also received Community assistance.

"It is important to set up actions bringing the children closer to the sea", underlined the Prefect of the Northern Islands, Sylvie Feucher, who came to attend yesterday morning the embarkation of young boys at the maritime station.
