Since January, massive strandings of Sargassum have resumed on the beaches of the island usually affected: Cul-de-Sac, Mont Vernon, Baie Lucas, ... But according to residents, “nothing has been picked up since the last campaign of last summer ”.

The removal of stranded Sargassum, for which the COM is responsible, was the subject of a public contract in 2019. Two companies were selected by the Collectivity: Gumbs Technique Nouvelle and Janky Environnement.

The first is assigned to Grandes Cayes, L'Embouchure Bay, Lucas Bay and Mont Vernon, while the second is in charge of Cul-de-Sac bay, and the fish pond beach.

In addition to collection, the market provides for Grandes Cayes storage and spreading within a kilometer (€ 1440 / day), for Cul-de-Sac transport to the eco-site (€ 22.50 per tonne), for Mont Vernon storage and spreading less than a kilometer (1440 € / day), for the Baie de l'Embouchure (1440 € / day), storage and spreading less than a kilometer, for the auxang fish transport to the eco-site (22.50 € per tonne), and for Lucas Bay, on-site storage (1440 € / day).

For the time being, the COM indicates that it has mandated companies on the market for several weeks. Still, the latter have obviously not manifested themselves.
