The Regional Health Agency wants to speed up vaccination in the northern islands in order to create immunity for the population. At the end of April, the campaign will open to the entire population.

Today, vaccination concerns people over 75 and people of all ages with chronic disease or obesity. Those who do not fit in the boxes because they are younger or do not have co-morbidities, can still register to be vaccinated, confirmed the authorities on Saturday morning in Quartier d'Orléans; the condition being to be over 18 years old.

Vaccination is done either at the hospital or in town with doctors and other health professionals. "The AstraZeneca vaccine is reserved for people over 55," says Valérie Denux, the director general of the ARS who also wants to reassure the public. "More than 20 million people have had this vaccine worldwide and the number of complications remains very low."

"Regarding Pfizer, more than 20 doses were injected in Guadeloupe and the northern islands and no complications were observed," said the director. However, after the second injection, signs of fatigue and fever may appear depending on the person. "But it's normal, it's the body's normal reaction to any vaccine," she insists.

To date, the three vaccines available in Saint-Martin are Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca. Depending on the place of vaccination, it is possible to choose the type of vaccine. “The Pfizer and the Moderna are identical; AstraZeneca administered to people over 55, ”recalls Valérie Denux.
