Laurent Petit, president of the Association "Saint-Martin Sport Fishing" and Chantal Vernusse, manager of the company Calypso Event, in charge of the organization of the tournament presented to the media the 18th edition of the Saint-Martin Billfish Tournament with some small new features on the program…

Having become essential over the years, the Saint-Martin Billfish Tournament is considered today as one of the biggest big game fishing tournaments organized in the Caribbean. This year again, nearly 30 boats are expected on the side of the Fort-Louis Marina, coming from Martinique, Guadeloupe, Trinidad, Curaçao, Saint-John, Saint-Barthélemy, Saint-Croix, Virgin Gorda, without forgetting our representatives from Saint-Martin and Sint-Maarten!

All these big game fishing enthusiasts will crisscross during the three competitions, the famous "Marlin Boulevard" with the firm intention of bringing on board, the legendary rostrum fish, the Blue Marlin!

Speaking of fishing, one of the novelties of this 18th edition will reside in the equipment, since the organizers, like other tournaments taking place in the United States and in the Caribbean, will encourage fishermen to use circular hooks "circle hook" which, unlike a conventional hook, less damage the fish when it must be returned to the water.

Organization-wise, the tournament will take place over 3 consecutive days (note: Thursday 16, Friday 17 and Saturday 18 June), the rest day having been canceled. In terms of endowments, the overall amount of the prizes, awarded to the winners of the different categories, is around US $ 140. Who says better? Finally, the icing on the cake: the winner of the tournament will be invited to Costa Rica in April 000 to participate in the World Big Game Fishing Championships. Did you say sacred challenge? _AF
