Several unauthorized gatherings of people were noted by the Saint-Barthélemy gendarmerie during the last two weekends near the Saint-Jean service station, at the drinks vending machine.
These events are likely to favor the propagation of the virus and the emergence of clusters. Saint-Barthélemy is not affected for the moment by the restrictions which are in force on the metropolitan territory. This kind of attitude could, in time, put the entire population of the island in difficulty with the observation of a deterioration in the health situation.
Fighting the virus is a shared responsibility. On the island, jobs are preserved thanks to the maintenance of tourist activity as well as the freedom to come and go. The prefecture therefore calls for compliance with the regulatory provisions which invite the entire population to avoid private events and to properly assess the issues of bad individual behavior for the economic future of the island.
With regard to drinking establishments, operators are reminded that protective, hygienic and distancing measures are strictly applied, a fortiori during this period of high tourist traffic. The health situation is far from being mastered everywhere in the world. Checks are carried out on a regular basis and formal notices have been notified to certain operators with a view to administrative closures for non-compliance with the procedures for welcoming the public.
