François Baroin, mayor of Troyes, but also president of the association of mayors of France, made a trip to the Antilles. After going to Guadeloupe and Saint-Barthélemy, it was last Friday in Saint-Martin and the next day in Martinique.

"I came at the invitation of President Gibbs to make a point in particular on the consequences of the reorganization, reconstruction and overall resilience of the island following Irma," he said during a press briefing organized after a meeting to present the major risks and the means of prevention put in place. During one hour the services of the COM and the State were able to explain the “lessons to be learned” to François Baroin but also explain how it was possible “to improve the technique, the transmission of information, the ability to 'to anticipate".

The mayor of Troyes also wanted to express his support and that of all the communities he represents.

And to underline that they also showed their solidarity via the credits released by the State since a part of them was taken from the allocations to the communes.

“Irma has gone back in centuries of history. Saint-Martin has accumulated all the direct consequences of climatological evolution even if it is still difficult today to establish a definitive link ”, comments François Baroin who as mayor had to face two flooding phenomena five years apart that hadn't happened in a century. So he considers it important to be able to "share feedback". "The advances that will be produced here in Saint Martin will serve as a benchmark for metropolitan communities," he says.
