Over two hundred shipwrecks identified in the lagoon

Eight and a half months after Hurricane Irma, the number of shipwrecks in the lagoon is estimated at over two hundred.

The Sint Maarten Nature Foundation has just identified and geolocated 101 wrecks of motor boats and sailboats on the Dutch side. On the French side, a meeting was held yesterday on the wrecks. A hundred are also listed in the lagoon. The most dangerous have been identified and will be removed in the coming weeks for the hurricane season. All of the sunken boats will be removed by the COM, which, alongside the State, is seeking funds to finance these very costly operations.
