Environment: Major seabed cleaning operation to secure the beaches!

0

The Collectivity of Saint-Martin and the Port Establishment have implemented the cleaning of several public beaches in recent weeks.

Thus, the mandated companies (JBS and KUKA DIVER) first carried out work to locate ship wrecks and sheet metal and wood waste, having ended up at the bottom of the water in the lagoon and on certain beaches after Hurricane Irma. Professional divers have inspected the French part of the lagoon of Simpson bay, but also the beaches of Galisbay, Friar's Bay, Grand-Case and Orient Bay.

The first cleaning actions started in early May. The port establishment took care of the cleaning of Galisbay beach while the Collectivity carried out a first phase of cleaning on the beach of Grand Case (from the cemetery to the first pontoon).

The day before yesterday, the community began the second phase of cleaning from the pontoon of Grand-Case to the bay of the Grand-Case Beach Club. Tedious work but necessary for the safety of bathers. The divers were thus able to remove many bulky items, in order to secure swimming on these busy beaches. The next phase will consist of cleaning the beaches at Friar's Bay and Orient Bay.

This operation is funded by the community to the tune of 38 €, it is part of the cleaning campaign organized by the President, Daniel Gibbs and his team, from May 700 to June 10, 10, in preparation for the next cyclone season.

Note that the port establishment took over the sum of € 31 for locating in the lagoon and cleaning the Galisbay beach.
