Indicted by justice for suspicion of embezzlement of public funds, illegal taking of interests and favoritism in the award of public contracts, the legal turmoil of Semsamar finally sees the end of the tunnel, the company is now cleared.

Semsamar officials gathered the press last Saturday to announce the dismissal decision rendered by the financial examining magistrate of the Paris judicial court. Were present around the table, Marie-Danielle Hamot - legal manager, Laurent Pinsel - deputy managing director, Yawo Nyuiadzi - president, Marie-Dominique Ramphort - administrator and  Chantal Viviers - employee representative. As well as Maître Sébastien Schapira, lawyer at the Paris Bar representing Semsamar, who retraced the progress of this case, the facts of which date back to 2012 after denunciation by the Basse-Terre prosecution and the seizure of the file by the National Financial Prosecutor's Office in 2015 The legal disputes with Semsamar marked the beginning of the turbulence for the semi-public company. At the beginning of 2013, many dysfunctions were highlighted in the report of the Interministerial Inspectorate of Social Housing (MIILOS), such as the exorbitant salary of the director at the time, Marie-Paule Bélénus- Romana, reaching more than a million euros in remuneration in 2011 or agreements signed between Semsamar and former leaders, such as Jean-Paul Fischer. The two protagonists were then also indicted, leading to a change of direction within the social landlord. The twists and turns had caused a lot of ink to flow at the time, the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron then visiting at the end of 2018 had firmly denounced the suspicions of corrupt practices weighing on Semsamar, already terribly weakened and discredited. The new governance put in place that same year made it possible to reopen the dialogue with the judges and to re-establish a relationship of trust. The axis of Semsamar's defense aimed to change the company's status from accused to that of victim, proving the immense moral and financial damage suffered by the company of 400 employees.

This dismissal order now removes this sword of Damocles that has been in place for several years. And the recognition of the status of victim of Semsamar will promote this new departure long awaited by the leaders in place. Semsamar, which is working hard to restore its image, has filed a civil suit for the continuation of the trial which will have three individuals accused. The names have not been released. Semsamar's financial accounts will be released to the public at the end of February 2022. _VX
