Cleaning the seabed: 10 tonnes of waste collected!

0

As part of the cleaning month decided by President Daniel Gibbs and his team, the Collectivity of Saint-Martin and its Port Establishment have implemented in recent weeks the cleaning of several public beaches in order to rid the seabed of the numerous bulky items transported by Hurricane Irma (sheets - pieces of wood - miscellaneous waste).

The mandated companies (JBS and KUKA DIVER) first carried out a thorough cleaning of the Galisbay beach, as well as a first phase on the Grand Case beach (from the cemetery to the first pontoon). The second phase of cleaning from the Grand Case pontoon to the bay of the Grand Case Beach Club began in mid-May and is almost complete.

More than 10 tonnes of various bulky items have been collected on the Grand Case beach since the start of the operation. The next step will be to clean up the beaches at Friar's Bay and Orient Bay.

This operation is financed by the community up to € 38. The port establishment took charge of the sum of € 700 for the location in the lagoon and the cleaning of Galisbay beach.
