The Sea Trades Association (Métimer) has been working for almost a year on the creation of a nautical club in the French part, more precisely in Galisbay. His project could see the light of day in June 2019.
"The architect in metropolitan France is in the process of carrying out the plans", confides Bülent Gülay, the president of Métimer. He also hopes that the Collectivity will respond positively to his request to set up the center in Galisbay, precisely at the level of the multi-sports hall. “It is the ideal place with the beach. The body of water lends itself perfectly to the practice of water sports ”, specifies the one who would also need part of the offices and the toilets.
Metimer is in contact with several federations including that of sailing, and all of them support the project. “The objective is to be able to bring together all the nautical disciplines. It would be the first school on the French side, ”comments Bülent Gülay.
The cost of the project is between 200 and 000 euros and at least three direct jobs will be created as soon as it opens.
During the Nautic show in Paris in December 2017, an auction of photos of sailors who participated in the Vendée Globe had been organized and the funds raised had enabled the acquisition of equipment. Metimer was able to order ten Optimists, five SUP (Stand Up Paddle), five kayaks and life jackets.
