Boating: The International Press on an excursion to restore the image of the island!

At the invitation of the company "Moorings & Sunsail", a true benchmark in the cruise industry and high-end boat rental, six journalists specializing in the nautical press are currently in Saint-Martin to discover by catamaran the charms of the destination.

Before embarking on the catamarans of the “Moorings and Sunsail” fleet, a sympathetic and convivial reception was organized by Métimer and the Tourist Office, last Wednesday, at the restaurant “La Terrasse”, located at the West Indies in the presence of the Prefect, Sylvie Feucher, local elected officials and players in the nautical industry in Saint-Martin.

"When we start to receive guests, for me it is a sign of rebirth, healing, smiling," said with some enthusiasm Bulent Gulay, president of the Métimer Association.

Now, the problem is in the infrastructures for the installation of the reception and technical bases and the lack of available berths. More than 100 boats are looking to find a bond in our marinas and to start their cruises immediately because the demand is very dense in this branch of boating with a clientele with high purchasing power.

Several local structures have disappeared in boating. As soon as the infrastructure is repaired, these small businesses will be reborn or new ones will be built.

I hope the message will be heard by our elected officials. We need all our MARINAS to welcome charter companies who are just waiting to bring thousands of boaters who will work our taxis, our shops, our restaurants, our marinas, our yards, our craftsmen and very quickly will add a more seriously to our economy. "
