Boating: Major nautical competitions are on the horizon: boaters friends, be vigilant!

Saint-Martin is preparing to experience, in its maritime waters, several large-scale events, namely:

- The 2nd edition of the “Caribbean Multihull Challenge” from February 14 to 16, 2020

- The 8th Intercaraïbes Kite / Wind Foil Championship, from February 21 to 23, 2020

- The 40th edition of the “Heineken Regatta” from March 5 to 8, 2020.

Concerning the French part, a declaration of nautical manifestation was recorded each time by the Territorial Unit of Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy of the Direction of the Sea of ​​Guadeloupe: a visa, available in Prefecture, is carried out a few days before the start of these nautical events which presents in particular the routes planned for the different days of competition.

Besides the resources specific to the organization of this regatta, maritime safety and the safeguard of life at sea will be ensured by the State by the deployment of human and nautical means: prefecture, direction of the sea, nautical brigade of the national gendarmerie, SNSM, manager of the National Natural Reserve.

On this occasion, the Prefecture of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin would like to inform the population about the supervision of this event and remind them of some safety instructions:

- Spectators of these regattas are kindly requested to respect a sufficient distance from competing vessels or from race committee vessels

- It is prohibited for any nautical means (ship, windsurfing, kite surfing, jet ski or any other type of boat) to use the sea routes taken by the participants of these regattas at the time of their passage

- Any violation found will be subject to the sanctions provided in particular by the transport code and the sports code.
