Sinking of an illegal boat

In the case of the sinking of a boat on the night of June 30 to July 1, 2013 between Saint-Martin and Anguilla with on board at least twenty-three people - most of the illegals, six people had been prosecuted in Saint-Martin. They were tried on December 20 in Saint-Martin.

The court delivered its deliberations yesterday:

- three years in prison against EL, the captain of the boat which was to transport the passengers from Baie Rouge to Saint Thomas. He was acquitted of the facts of aid to the stay of illegal persons.

- One year in prison including six months with a suspended sentence against AD, the young mechanic who was to repair the boat. He had received orders from his father. He was acquitted of the facts of non-assistance to person in danger.

A year in prison against JA, the guardian of the villa in Baie Rouge, from where the boat left. He did not appear at the hearing. An arrest warrant has been issued.

- Three years in prison against ADM, the one who was implicated by all the witnesses and other protagonists of the case. A definitive ban on stay in France was also pronounced.

- Three years in prison against and final ban from stay in France for JFS and E de PVN who did not appear at the hearing. An arrest warrant was also issued. (more details on www.soualigapost.com).
