Last weekend, the inter-school competition on the island of St-Martin/Sint Maarten, sponsored by Caribbean Gems, took place in the Carib Swim Team swimming pool.

It had been 2 years since this competition had been able to take place.

Six elementary schools and eight middle schools took part, including the Lycée Victor Hugo and the Cité Scolaire (represented by Brandon Dufournier) with a total of 17 swimmers.

The Lycée Saint Dominic won 1st place, CIA placed 2nd and finally, the Collège-Lycée Victor Hugo finished in 3rd place with its 16 swimmers who gave their all during the races.

Each swimmer participated in two individual races as well as a relay.  The swimmers of the Club Carib Swim Team have greatly contributed to the success of their school with a total of 11 gold medals won, 6 silver medals and 7 bronze medals.

Shortly before the competition, the schools from the Dutch side had the opportunity to come to the Carib Swim Team pool with their PE teachers in order to prepare and motivate their teams while developing swimming skills. This competition is thus an opportunity to arouse a passion for swimming via the school, on both sides of the island.

The next deadline for the swimmers are the Cariftas Games where Saphir Thomas, Joey Schvartz, Matias Piazza and Sacha Gibbs have qualified and will represent the island of Saint-Martin.

Congratulations to them! _AF
