Music: What The Funk, (finally) almost complete

0

The group What The Funk was born in June 2017. Amin Bouabdelli, guitarist and music teacher (Musicamin), Tanya Michelle, singer, bassist Cornelius Romou, drummer Nikita Christmas, pianist Renato Falaschi, and Richard Wendel, trumpeter have decided to resume together and to their sauce (“funk and everything that grooves”) the hits of the moment (Top 40).

“We take any song and have fun with it,” says Amin. While the group is experiencing its first hours, Hurricane Irma occurs. If Amin, Cornelius and Nikita remain in place, Renato, Richard and Tanya who were settling on the island, return respectively to Dijon, New York and Paris. In December, the guitarist, the bassist and the drummer meet again "hoping to bring back the missing pieces". They start at the Red Piano every Monday evening. Renato (piano) returns in January and Tanya arrives for the season. All that's missing is Richard, the trumpeter who still hasn't been able to come back for lack of accommodation.

As Tanya does not stay in the year, the group recruits the local singer Shawn J to replace her. It is with him that What The Funk performs on Monday at the Red Piano and on Wednesday at the Pineapple Pete. Then with Tanya once a month at Lagoonies, but also at Blue Martini and Bikini, among others. The two singers went on stage together exceptionally Saturday January 19 at the Loterie Farm.

This year, the group is scheduled for Grand Case Tuesdays (fortnightly) and must also return to the Heineken Regatta. Their festive and dancing music seduces a large audience. Its members have been contacted to participate in a Guadeloupe festival next November.
