Just like 2021, the year 2022 will be filled with sporting events, to the delight of all fans. Due to the health crisis, the world of sport has been largely disrupted for almost two years now. Between cancellations, postponements, in camera or even gauging the organization of sporting events has become a real headache.

But that will not prevent 2022 from vibrating thanks to many competitions, where in different disciplines, the French will be present in order to go and win a title, create the feat or strengthen their status as favorite.

Between the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, the Tour de France, the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, sporting events will follow one another throughout the year, starting in January.

1. Handball, men's European championship

This is the first major event of this year 2022: the European Men's Handball Championship, from Thursday 13 to Sunday 30 January 2022 in Hungary and Slovakia.

Les Bleus, new Olympic champions in Tokyo in the summer of 2021  hope to imitate their predecessors of Experts, winners of the international tournament following their 2008 Olympic coronation, namely the 2009 World Cup.

2. Tennis: Australian Open

It is a major meeting at the start of each year, but also the first Grand Slam tournament of the season. The Australian Open will take place from Monday 17 to Sunday 30 January at Melbourne Park.

To participate in this competition, all participants must be vaccinated as announced by the organizers. But the boss of the tournament, Craig Tiley, had said that only a "small percentage" of people not vaccinated against Covid-19 will be able to benefit from medical exemptions.

As a reminder, the drastic policy of eliminating the coronavirus had made the inhabitants endure a long period of confinement in Australia. Between quarantine, screening tests and application of the health protocol, the conditions for participating in the Australian Open will be very strict this year again.

3. Beijing Olympic Winter Games 2022

It is an event always eagerly awaited: the Olympic Winter Games. They will take place this year in Beijing, China, from Thursday 4 to Sunday 20 February 2022. However, they will have a special flavor since the coronavirus will not allow a normal organization of this international event. The Paralympic Winter Games will take place in the wake, from Friday 4 to Sunday 13 March 2022.

4. Rugby: VI Nations Tournament

Since Fabien Galthié is at the head of the XV of France, the Blues have a series of good results. During this VI Nations Tournament, which takes place from Saturday 5 February to Saturday 19 March, they will have the opportunity to assert themselves a little more.

In details, France receives three times (Italy on Sunday February 6 at 16 p.m., Ireland on Saturday February 12 at 17 p.m. and England on Saturday March 45 at 19 p.m.) and moves twice (in Scotland on Saturday February 26 at 15 p.m. and in Wales on Friday March 15 at 11 p.m.). A definite advantage for winning back a trophy abandoned since 21.

5. Formula 1

Max Verstappen-Lewis Hamilton, the revenge? The 73rd edition of the Formula 1 World Championship is due to start on Sunday March 20 with the Bahrain Grand Prix. 23 races are on the program until Sunday November 20 and the Abu Dhabi GP, theater of the final at the end of the suspense between the Dutch and the British in 2021. The Monaco Grand Prix is scheduled for Sunday May 29, that of France at Castellet on Sunday July 24.

6. Tennis: Roland-Garros

It is an unmissable event in France. The 2022 edition of Roland-Garros will take place from Sunday May 22 to Sunday June 5. If the clay remains the favorite surface of Rafael Nadal, 13 times winner of this tournament, it is the Serbian Novak Djokovic who holds the title.

7. Cycling: Tour de France

He will leave for Denmark to join the legendary Avenue des Champs-Élysées. The Tour de France will start on Saturday July 1 and will continue until Sunday July 24.

8. Cycling: world road championships

The competition will take place from Sunday 18 to Sunday 25 September 2022 in Wollongong, Australia. But during these road cycling world championships, one race will be more anticipated than all the others: the men's road race, on the last day.

Julian Alaphilippe, twice crowned consecutively in 2020 and 2021, should attempt the feat of seeking a third title. The bet is therefore launched for the rider of Deceuninck-Quick Step, who will have to compete with Wout van Aert or Mathieu van der Poel.

9. Football: 2022 World Cup in Qatar

It is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated sporting events of the year 2022. The FIFA World Cup will take place from Monday November 21 to Sunday December 18 in Qatar. A competition that even before having taken place, has already made a lot of talk, especially because of the unprecedented period in which this tournament will take place.

A choice that was made because of the climatic conditions of Qatar and its strong heat in May-June-July, dates when the competition usually takes place. During this international event which takes place every four years, the defending Blues will be in the spotlight to achieve a double, but above all, to erase a failed Euro 2020.
