Louis Mussington: “What are we waiting for to take action?”

The former territorial adviser Louis Mussington is very unhappy with the current situation of Saint-Martin in education. He wanted to express his concern for young people through the press.

“Inviting the public of Saint Martin to a seminar against illiteracy is an approach recommended by the Academy of Guadeloupe which goes in the right direction and which we welcome with satisfaction. In spite of the goodwill which is displayed and the beautiful speeches which are delivered during the passage of a new Rector or a Minister to Saint-Martin, it is clear that nothing is moving significantly in the field of 'teaching,' notes Mussington. A more just and benevolent school, such is the wish of the rector mentioned in his vows. “Certainly we can appreciate this formulation. However, we would like to point out that the legislator, within the framework of the organic law of Saint Martin, has pronounced on the orientations to be implemented in order to create the conditions necessary for academic success ”, he explains. Adding that "article LO 6314-9 says: the community may, by deliberation of the territorial council, determine the conditions under which additional education in English is provided in nursery and primary schools in the community, in order to facilitate, by taking into account the cultural specificities of Saint-Martin, learning the French language ”. Louis Mussington therefore wonders why nothing is moving on our territory.
