In Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy, the bronchiolitis epidemic is coming to an end, according to the latest epidemiological bulletin from the French Institute for Public Health Surveillance (InVS).
Since the start of the epidemic in Saint-Martin, 119 cases have been estimated. The weekly number of consultations continues “its slow decrease”, but “it remains close to the maximum expected values”. In Saint-Barthélemy, 79 cases have been recorded. The health authorities recommend to continue "the reinforced hygiene measures and to consult a doctor in the event of signs suggestive of bronchiolitis".
To avoid the transmission of the virus, here are some tips from the National Institute for Prevention and Health Education (Inpes):
- always wash your hands with soap and water for 30 seconds before caring for a baby;
- if you have a cold or you cough, wear a surgical mask (available at pharmacies) to take care of it;
- if you have a cold or during an epidemic, do not kiss your child on the face or on the hands;
- ventilate his room every day for at least ten minutes;
- avoid taking your child to public places where he might come into contact with people with colds;
- if your child is sick and you wish to consult, tell your doctor before going to his waiting room.
