Housing: Trait d'Union addresses unpaid rent issues

0

One of the missions of the Trait d'Union association funded by the Ministry of Justice and the Fondation de France is to provide free support and guidance to victims of criminal offenses. 95% of the homes having been damaged by the cyclone, one of the recurring problems of the victims concerns housing.

Some landlords walk through the door of the association to report problems with unpaid rents. “There are tenants who were unable to pay their rent for the first months after the cyclone and who find themselves today with significant delays. Their owners ask for the entire rent while they live in "cyclone" housing, reports Olivier Fatou, lawyer at Trait d'Union.

Many tenants believed that they did not have to pay rent because their accommodation was damaged while they were staying in it. Often, the owners offered the months of September and October and started asking for full rents starting in November. “If they occupy the accommodation they have to pay, even when it is damaged. But they have to find a happy medium, ”say the lawyers of Trait d'Union. (Source: www.soualigapost.com).
