Victims are assisted during a trial by Trait d'Union

During a trial in Saint-Martin, the accused persons may be accompanied by a lawyer to defend themselves. Just like the victims. But in general, in Saint-Martin, the latter find themselves alone at the helm. However, they have rights that they can assert. This is why, in order to help them, Jean-Marie Thévenet created the association Trait d'Union.

Until then, the victims were informed of the existence of a hyphen by the gendarmes during their hearing. But due to a lack of means, the association was limited in its actions.

The reinforcement of France Victims staff after Irma enabled the systematic presence of a member of the association with victims during correctional hearings.

The role of Trait d'Union is not that of a lawyer but of explaining to victims the course of the trial, the functioning of justice, telling them that they can become a civil party and claim damages for repair the damage they have suffered. So many rights that most ignore. Trait d'Union has also just recruited a lawyer and a psychologist to gain momentum in its actions. (Source: www.soualigapost.com)
