Mid-term of his presidency of the Conference of Presidents of the Outermost Regions of Europe (CPRUP), President Daniel Gibbs met his counterparts in Brussels, on November 18 and 19, 2019, to take stock of current files and to define the most urgent axes to initiate or pursue in the coming months.

The 9 representatives of the ORs signed a joint declaration last Monday, November 18 in Brussels, in which the regions undertake to continue their enhanced partnership.

Among the main thrusts of this declaration, the ORs wish to take full advantage of the provisions of Article 349 of the TFEU. This article distinguishes the ORs from other regions of the Union, the representatives therefore invite the European Commission, the Council and the European Parliament to make use of the provisions of this article in favor of our overseas regions, in particular with regard to the extent of the economic and social catch-up to consolidate in our territories.

This joint declaration also supports the possibility for the outermost regions of being able to benefit from a budget which meets the real challenges of the regions of progress, job creation and economic cohesion. The ORs are therefore launching a joint appeal for European solidarity.

The objective of this joint declaration is also to obtain the support of traditional sectors such as agriculture and fishing and to fight effectively against the isolation of our outlying regions. The ecological transition and support for the ORs in this area are also clearly formulated in this joint document.
