The magistrates of Saint-Martin and Basse-Terre in solidarity with the national movement denouncing the behavior of the Keeper of the Seals

The magistrates of the seat and of the prosecution of the judicial court of Basse-Terre and the local court of Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy met in an extraordinary general assembly whose agenda was the vote on a motion at the request of unions of magistrates following "the decision of the Minister of Justice to seize the General Inspectorate of Justice of an administrative investigation against three magistrates, publicly and specifically targeted, of the national financial prosecutor's office and to the remarks that the Minister of Justice was able to hold these last days on the corporatism of the magistrates ”.

The magistrates "denounce the major conflict of interest in which the Keeper of the Seals finds himself, (...) recall that the operational inspection ordered by Madame Belloubet already seriously undermined judicial independence, in that 'it did not concern the general functioning of a service but an investigation in progress; are concerned about the fact that the administrative investigation announced by the Minister of Justice is based on the results of the said operational inspection - non-adversarial - in disregard of the rights of the defense and through a complete circumvention of the procedure; observe that these events constitute a destabilization of the judicial institution, not only by discrediting the National Financial Prosecutor's Office, at the dawn of the holding of a particularly sensitive trial, but also by unfounded criticism of the National School the Magistracy, which has opened up to civil society for many years; deplore the attempt of the Minister of Justice to reduce the reactions of the judiciary and its representatives to a simple corporatist reflex and affirm on the contrary that the denunciation of such dysfunctions is essential to the preservation of our rule of law; note that the Minister of Justice, under cover of a speech of openness and transparency, undermines democratic principles such as that of the separation of powers, for the benefit of private interests ”.

They "therefore call on the President of the Republic to act responsibly as the guarantor of the independence of the judicial authority".
