The northern islands were still on yellow alert yesterday for waves and submersion

The Guadeloupe Meteorological Center yesterday placed Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy in yellow vigilance level for waves and submersion.

Hurricane Larry is still circulating far from our coasts, but it still generates an energetic east-northeast swell creating unusual agitation on the exposed coasts of Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy.

The most threatened areas were the eastern coast as well as Marigot and Grand Case (to a lesser extent).

According to forecasts, the sea remained rough to locally strong yesterday morning, with hollows of 2m50 to 2m80 on the most exposed facades of St-Barthélémy, Atlantic side, 2m to 2m20 on the eastern coast of Saint-Martin, for periods of swell between 12 and 13 seconds. In these areas, unusual surges were expected, as well as localized invasions of the lower parts of the coast.  The less exposed coasts (Grand-Case, Gustavia) could also undergo some unusual eddies. A gradual amortization was to take place yesterday afternoon.
