For the second time in a week, the TOURNESOL association, welcoming adolescents and young adults with disabilities, was robbed. When they arrived at their workplace on Monday morning, the team found the premises, located in Concordia, fractured and devastated.
The damage is significant, beyond the material damage (Entrance door fractured and replaced twice, broken doors and interior cupboards), it is all the equipment intended for day reception activities, which has been stolen. It is not less than 4 digital multimedia tablets (Samsung and Ipad), containing a good number of applications for the work of the senses and autonomy, a video projector bought a month earlier, two laptops and landline, the mobile phone of the association and of course, the most important the damage which the young people received must undergo, in everyday life, to no longer be able to use this equipment.
The association, created in 2007 by parents of children with disabilities, opened its day care center in 2013 and welcomes around twenty young people, from 15 to 31 years old, presenting mainly mental and cognitive disorders.
The financial means of the association are precarious and require each year the search of receipts by means of requests for subsidy, as well with the State as of the COM, the CAF, the Program of Educational Success, than with foundations. and private donors. Financial management is complex, constantly under stress and it is a constant battle that the association must wage, in order to collect these funds, on time, in order to ensure their functioning.
Never let it down…
The stakes are high for the territory of Saint Martin since TOURNESOL is the only reception structure for adults, operating from Monday to Friday, all day. It is all the more so since the accompaniment of people with disabilities requires very qualified and high-quality supervision. So these two burglaries undermine the functioning and finances of the association and therefore, the sustainability of its actions on a daily basis. It is not for as much that neither the members of the office and the board of directors, nor the educational team, are resigned to undergo these "aggressions" without reaction, on the contrary, this team of professionals still says stronger to commit and to maintain, daily day care, for the benefit of a population of people often forgotten, for some without possibility of following an education beyond 16 years, even excluded, those of young people adults and adults with disabilities.
