The average age of death is 65 in Saint-Martin

In Saint-Martin, the average age of death has been between 63 and 66 over the past two years. In 2016, the average age was 67 - one of the highest since 2010 - for a total number of deaths in the territory of 140 *. In 2020, community services recorded the same number of deaths with an average age of 66 years.

The number of deaths of children under the age of 10 recorded is significant at the scale of the territory: 3 between January and August of this year, 4 in 2020, 8 in 2019, 1 in 2018, 6 in 2017 (including two during Irma), 2 in 2016. For most of these children, death is registered on the same day as the birth.

Globally, between 35 and 40% of the people who die in Saint-Martin are aged between 60 and 79 years and around 30% are over 80 years old. Few people cross the 100-year mark. Last year, one person died at 102; two centenarians in 2019 and two in 2017.

In 2021, the number of deaths recorded on August 23 ** is 107, i.e. 16 more than in 2020 or 2016 at the same period or 14 more than in 2019.

At the end of August 2021, the 70-79 year olds represented almost a quarter of deaths against 19% in 2020 or 18% in 2016. During the first eight months of the year, a little more than 12% of people died in the region. were between 40 and 49 years old (compared to 5% in 2020 and 2016). The average age of death is 65.
