The driver appeared last Thursday before the criminal court of Saint-Martin.

On September 24, 2019, the driver of a sixteen-seater mini-bus was checked by the gendarmes. It turns out that neither the CCISM nor the COM is declared as a taxi and / or public transporter, that the license plates do not correspond to the serial number of the vehicle. The driver, EA, only holds a category B license while his vehicle requires a category D license. During the inspection, 21 1 dollar bills and 5 5 dollar bills were found on him. no one was on the minibus and another wanted to get on.

EA was heard by the gendarmes then summoned before the criminal court of Saint-Martin. He appeared this morning.

At the helm, he explained that he enrolled with a driving school to obtain the right license but did not go through with the process for various reasons (financial, administrative). However, the COM had granted him the principle of a subsidy of 4 euros to take the exam in Guadeloupe.

Regarding the declaration of his activity to the CCISM and the COM, he explained that he had also started the procedures with the COM which, according to him, did not follow up. The court regretted the absence of the community, the victim in the case, who could have provided information on the accused's file.

Regarding license plates, EA admitted to putting fake ones on his vehicle and justified it. He had to go partly Dutch and in order not to be arrested, he put the plates of his old vehicle, that is to say French plates, because the initial plates - Dutch them - were no longer valid.

"I am Saint-Martinois, young, I try to exercise ...", defended EA, thirty years, who must also provide for the needs of his five children including three with his current partner. He said he worked partly Dutch for a monthly salary of $ 1 and sold the vehicle - which he says he bought to transport his family - for $ 300, but has so far received only half of it. the sum.

The vice-prosecutor clarified that the territorial police had noticed EA carrying out an illegal activity and had reported his vehicle to the gendarmerie. He demanded a day-fine, 90 days at 10 euros, as well as the confiscation of the seals (the money, the vehicle and the keys to it).

After a suspension of the hearing, the court delivered its deliberations. He ordered the confiscation of the vehicle, keys and money. A decision that angered EA. "You were facing a three-year prison sentence.

Instead of sentencing you to prison, the vehicle was confiscated, ”the court repeated twice.

EA did not calm down however and, on leaving the courtroom, let go: "If that's how you judge, that's why young people do this ... There is going to be a war . " Words that the vice-prosecutor heard and reported to the gendarmerie. EA should be heard again by the gendarmes for threatening the court.
