Road accident: one year in prison required against the driver of the car

The criminal court of Saint-Martin examined Thursday, September 11, the case of a road accident that occurred on July 25, 2018 in Sandy Ground and which involved a car and a motorcycle.

The motorcycle travels in the Baie Nettle-Marigot direction and deports to pass the ambulance parked at the bottom of the road, when a car arriving in the opposite direction makes a maneuver to park in the parking lot of a supermarket. The motorcycle hits the right rear of the car, the driver, VH, without helmet and in sandals, is ejected fifteen meters further. He was seriously injured in the foot. He will first have his foot amputated and then at the knee, he will have a three month ITT.

The driver of the car, 57-year-old PJ, a native of Saint Lucia and a resident of the Dutch side, is being prosecuted for involuntary injuries caused by a neglect. Two other faults which are reproached to him: the lack of insurance and the usurpation of number plates.

The prosecutor requested a suspended sentence of one year in prison, a fine of 600 euros for the lack of insurance as well as a driving ban in France for one year. The judgment was reserved for October 15. (more details on www.soualigapost.com)
