“80% of the island's children entering sixth grade do not master swimming. This observation can be extended to the entire population, a situation with a significant gap with the average figures observed on national territory, despite the island context of Saint-Martin. " This is the motivation that drives the community to build a nautical center.

She wants to establish it in Concordia, precisely on the ground located next to the sports area and going as far as the high school annexes. The equipment will be intended for schools (learning and perfection in swimming) and the general public. "It will also have to allow the accommodation of sportsmen and people of passage", specifies the COM.

The center will include a 25 meter long sports pool with 8 lanes with a surface area of 500 square meters, a 20 by 15 meter learning pool (300 square meters), a 50 square meter lagoon and as a square / solarium of 650 square meters. Two terraces are also planned: a mineral of 200 square meters and a vegetable of 1 square meters. 500 square meters will be devoted to accommodation and 500 square meters to reception, administrative area and cloakrooms.

The total cost of the project is estimated at 6 million euros, including 800 euros for fees and studies.

The COM has just launched a call for competition and plans to award the project management contract in mid-January 2021 and to take delivery of the nautical center in March 2022.

Finally, the project of the future nautical center will have to be integrated with that of a hurricane shelter and a cultural space in the Micro Folies standard that the COM wants nearby.
